Wives of Faith announces CareBlast

The mission of Wives of Faith since day 1 has been to connect, encourage and support military wives while pointing them to Christ in everything we do. The first 5 years of our ministry has seen much of what we do to help military wives carried out online; our vision for the next 5 years is to bring those ministry opportunities into the “real world.”

We have that opportunity with CareBlast. After a year and a half of talking about it and praying for the right time to do it, I’m excited to announce this new ministry that I hope will be an incredible blessing for military wives who are struggling as well as for military wives who want to do something to help others.

Kayla Lindsey, an Army National Guard wife, will serve as the CareBlast Coordinator, and we are so excited to have her as a wonderful addition to our Leadership Team!

Kayla and her husband, Kyle, reside in Northeast Ohio. They teach the children’s Sunday school class at their church and are involved in many other ministries. Kayla suffers from PTSD, fibromyalgia, and rheumatoid arthritis. She hopes that with these struggles God will use her life in many ways. Read more about her on our Leadership Page.

Here’s the way CareBlast will work: Friends submit requests for CareBlasts to be made for a specific friend, a military wife who needs some encouragement. Maybe she’s dealing with a rough deployment, or a crisis pregnancy, or a struggle in her marriage. Our CareBlast coordinator will review the request and then send out an alert to our CareBlast team (members of Wives of Faith who sign up to participate in this ministry). The CareBlast team will be invited to email or mail the recipient a word of encouragement, a note she’s being prayed for, or an e-card/card just letting her know she’s not alone.

For more information, visit the CareBlast ministry page. The new ministry kicks off the week of November 7th, when requests will start being accepted. If you would like to be part of the CareBlast ministry team, email Kayla at kayla@wivesoffaith.org. You must be a member of Wives of Faith to serve.

The Husband Project

All of us at one time or another have had secret – or not so secret – lists for our husbands. No, I’m not talking about the Honey Do lists for this weekend’s chores around the house.

I’m talking about the List – the list of things we think that if our husbands would just change – or improve – or work on – that they would be Perfect Husbands and not just Great Husbands. Whether it’s little things like putting the toilet seat down or bigger issues like controlling his temper, it can be easy (and very tempting) to always point to the flaws we think they can improve – and ignore our own shortcomings.

That’s why I want to make sure you’re aware of a special book club that launches in just a few short days. Kathi Lipp is the author of The Husband Project: 21 Days of Loving Your Man – On Purpose and with a Plan, and she is partnering with Military MOPS to do a book club specifically for military wives on this book. I’m one of the authors participating – in fact, you can check out my post here as we count down to the first day! – and there will be a lot of fun giveaways as well as important challenges as we follow our own list of ways to bless our husbands for the next 3 weeks.

A couple of things to note – you DON’T have to be part of Military MOPS to participate, and you DON’T even have to buy the book and read it if you don’t want to… you can just participate in the blog and challenges that will be covered. Sign up for the updates (you’ll receive an email each day with the new blog post)  and grab a friend to keep you both accountable in the project and get ready to start blessing your husband (and be blessed yourself in the process!).

If your husband is deployed – don’t fret – a special group of military wives from MOPS have gotten together to offer tips specifically for wives with deployed husbands on how you can still take on these challenges, even from a distance.

If you sign up, be sure to let Kathi know you’re from Wives of Faith! Hope to see you there!

Our Vision for 2012

Dear Wives of Faith members,

Our Board as well as some of our leadership team met at the end of September to discuss plans going forward for our ministry and to see what God has in mind for us. We had an amazing time sharing and I am excited for the women He has brought together in leadership.

I wanted to share with you some of the thoughts I shared with the group on where we are going as a ministry and some of our goals. As a ministry, we will be celebrating 5 years of service this December and as I explained to the group, in many ways, it feels like we’re about to graduate Kindergarten and move into First Grade. We have been feeling our way, seeking God as we go, and listening for His voice in how we should follow. I am excited about the next 5 years and what He has in store.

A VISION FOR 2012 AND BEYOND

“But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.” ~ 1 John 1:7

I ran across the above verse two days before our team met. KOINONIA (koy noh nEE ah) is a Greek word meaning fellowship or close mutual involvement. It’s a common fellowship in a task or cause and as believers we share koinonia with one another.

Looking at the verse above, as we think about what it means to walk in the light – there is a lot of darkness in military life today.

  • Struggling marriages
  • Hard, sometimes emotionally painful, deployments
  • The worries and sadness of families separated
  • Mental health issues for both the service member and the spouse, and sometimes even the children

There are a number of wonderful causes and organizations out there serving military spouses, particularly those struggling with loneliness, or depression or suicidal thoughts. Many encourage us to look for hope in ourselves, in the future, in our own strength, in each other. But, ultimately, none of those things are what can save us. They can help – but they can’t heal.  Read More→

An Important Word from Wives of Faith

I am sad to share with you that after much prayer, seeking God for His will, and discussion with one another, our Wives of Faith Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Wives of Faith weekend retreat scheduled for September 23-24.

This was a very hard decision to make. Every possible option was looked at as we tried to avoid cancelling the event all together. We also considered those who might have already purchased airline tickets. But though we had many indications early on that our attendance would be good, the economic climate and continued financial uncertainty our country is seeing has kept many of our ladies from registering who were planning too. With just a month away from our event, our registration numbers were still much lower than we hoped, and we were already beginning to receive requests for refunds due to tough financial situations at home, another indicator of where we are with the economy.

Those who registered have already been sent an email, and those who have already paid will receive a 100% refund.

This is the first time we’ve had to cancel an event. It is always hard to make a decision like this, knowing we are disappointing those we want to encourage the most. We hope that you will understand our decision and continue to be part of Wives of Faith in the future. We ask for your prayer for our ministry as we continue to move forward, and seek God’s direction as we minister to military wives.

God still has much in store for our ministry and I know we are going to see Him do some amazing things for military wives through Wives of Faith in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Sara Horn, Wives of Faith President
Wives of Faith Board of Directors
