ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE
Is love all we need? Many this week will be frantically trying to find the perfect card and make the perfect plans for Valentine’s Day. For some, it will be a day of beautiful memories. For others, it may be a day of great disappointment. We often set ourselves up for failure because we base our definition of love on the culture around us.
As military wives, these times of celebration can be very precious. With much uncertainty in our world, our hope is to spend alone time with our military husbands. If our husbands are deployed this year or even separated from us because of unusual assignments, we can take that time to write a love letter to him and be together in our hearts through words on paper.
As I am currently facilitating a Marriage class at our church, I am keenly aware of the direction and the challenge that Kay Arthur presents to us each week. In her A Marriage without Regrets class she leads us into the understanding of God’s most important relationship which is His relationship between God and man. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NAS Then comes the relationship between husband and wife. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25 NAS If our relationship vertically is not strong then our relationship horizontally cannot be. Much of the class time is spent on deepening our relationship with God which will ultimately bring us into a closer relationship with our husbands.
As you prepare this week to send that special card or to go to that special restaurant, spend time thanking God for the gift of marriage and covenant relationship. If your Valentine’s day will be spent on the phone from being miles apart or through your heart poured out in an e-mail or love letter, let your husband know how very much you thank God for him.
America owes a great debt of gratitude to the military family! I personally want to say I love you for your commitment to this great country and I pray that your Valentine’s Day is sweet and special this year.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
