Trust Brings Comfort

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28, NIV

Our oldest son is learning to drive and, quite frankly, the process is unnerving for me. As my husband and I have worked through the teenage years with our son and anticipate this transition with his younger siblings in the future, we’ve realized there is a spiritual process going on.

As a child matures, he/she begins to make better decisions. For a parent, those better decisions lead to a confidence and trust that was not there before. As I prepare for the time when my son is able to drive by himself and have his own car, I can experience trust in his judgment. I realize that he is still going to make mistakes, but the thought of trust bringing comfort just manifested itself to me through this situation. It has become a process as I realize that I cannot keep my son locked up at home, I have to let him go–trust him to a certain degree–so that he can grow into the young man God desires. Strange, but my trust in him brings comfort.

What about when it comes to God? Trust in God also brings comfort. He is, after all, completely sovereign over all things. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. I think about when my husband is away on military assignments or when he was deployed for a year. I trusted my husband and his judgment, but more importantly, I trusted God and His plan. Yes, there were some days when I thought of the worst things that could possibly happen and I was in a total frenzy before even realizing it. That fear was paralyzing and consuming!

As much as I would like to think that I am in control of things in my life, I’m really not. God is ultimately in charge. As I learn to trust Him at His Word and trust Him for Who He is, I will experience comfort and peace.

Focusing upon fears and the “what ifs” will not accomplish much. However, making that choice to say, “Ya know, God HAS this!” is the first step to experiencing peace and comfort, whatever the circumstances! God CAN be trusted completely, and there is comfort in that trust. After all, He is good and perfect, and the Bible teaches “… in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Believe that promise and LIVE like it!

Lord, help me to trust You today because I want to experience the comfort which results from that trust. Amen.

I Want To Be Like A Tree

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,

and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3, NIV Read More→
