Take the Wives of Faith 30-Day Prayer Challenge

This morning I got up and checked my text messages and FB news feed. A friend of mine posted that she finally felt God’s peace and was believing God for it to stay. I quickly, in my online hustle and bustle, typed out a reply that I would pray for her continued peace.

But then it hit me. My prayer life was faltering; was I really going to pray for her or just go ahead and start my day? As leader of our Prayer Ministry at Wives of Faith, this is not a good thing to realize!

Immediately, I was burdened with the idea of a 30 day challenge of a prayer journal to write in every time I tell someone I will be praying for them. How many of us have a friend or acquaintance tell us what they are facing and we simply say, “Hey, I will be praying for you.” and we walk away and maybe say a quick, “Lord, be with them,” but then we get busy with our to-do list for the day, our lives and don’t ever really pray?

So –  this is as much for me as for you –  I want to invite all of our WoF ladies to join me in a Prayer Challenge for 30 Days. Grab yourself a notebook (purse size is a great idea) and start today. If someone has a prayer partner that is praying for a specific need in unity with them, God will unleash miracles and meet needs. Matthew 18:19-20 tells us,”Again, I assure you: If two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there among them.”

Prayer of Thanksgiving

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods.  His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.”  Psalm 136:1-3

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day and I know that many times we cannot see those things that we should be thankful for.  But, no matter what we are facing or where we are in life, one thing to always remember is to be thankful for Jesus.  He reached down and saved you, He has promised you a place in heaven, He has said He will never leave your or forsake you, He has promised His provisions for you, He is waiting to put His arms around you in comfort, He owns a cattle on a thousand hills and can meet any financial need you have, He is the Great Physician and can heal all that ails you, He awaits with encouragement just for you, He showers you daily with love, He is there to carry you when you can no longer go on.  Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good.

Prayer prompt: Today, let your prayers be praise.  Ask for nothing, but instead give to God a song of praise that will fill His heart with joy.

For our Children

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” Romans 8:26-27

There are some things we just don’t always know how to pray.  I think of my children, when their father is deployed or at training.  I pray for them and for their understanding of his job, but what do they really need prayer for?  Most children themselves cannot tell you what they need prayer for, but God knows.  This verse tells us, “We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us…” Amazing!  If we can just stop before God and ask him to show us how to pray for these needs not known, He will direct our words.

Prayer prompt: Lift up all military children today.  Many times we as adults do know exactly what they need during deployment, or TDY’s, or any other reason for separation from their service member.  Pray for open hearts to know their needs as if we were a child ourselves.

Praying for Others

“The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.” 1 Peter 4:7

When praying for others, many times the stuff of your day can creep into your prayers.  It is so vital that your mind be clear and focused on the person you are praying for.  Is God giving you a verse of reference for them?  You need to be able to hear and respond to God’s urging.

Prayer prompt: Be in prayer today for our Wives of Faith Prayer Team.  Pray for their minds to not be muddled with distractions, but that they instead be clear and concise in their prayers for the needs that are brought before them.

Losing a Loved One

“I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.” Romans 15:30

So many have lost a loved one during this war time, I personally cannot imagine to grief they feel.  If they do not know God and do not have His strength to lean on, how do they recover from their loss?  As a Christian and a military wife, we should always be aware of those around us.  Is there someone we know who has lost a family member?  What can we do for them?  Do they need a meal?  Did we offer to pray with them?  You may be the only light they see in their tunnel and you could lead them out and into God’s healing arms.

Prayer prompt: Today remember those families that have lost a loved one in service.  Help them to have peace in their despair, to be restored with the joy of the Lord.
