As a military spouse and USAF veteran, I’ve had the privilege of serving my country while wearing the uniform, and while serving those who serve. The military spouse experience is unique because we have many opportunities to travel and live all over the world. In mine and my family’s various assignments to cool places like Europe and Asia, I have discovered America is a pretty special place to call home. We are known as the land of opportunity, wealth, and possibility. Where else can teenagers form a company with a few hundred dollars and later sell it for a few million? I have often wondered about people like this and why some are so enterprising and some are not. After all, if you live in the USA, we are all governed by the same constitution, the same laws, and are endowed with the same rights. Why is it some people seem to be born to create, to prosper, to fulfill destiny, but others trudge along in life as if playing a role in “The Matrix”?
I believe it is because these people have not grasped the truth about their freedom.
It is strange that as military women, we see the sacrifice of our husbands, our friends and our sisters who serve. More than most Americans, the Military Woman can grasp the concept of freedom because we face the challenges of it every time our spouses put on the uniform, when a deployment order hits, or when we leave yet another relationship behind as we head off to our next place to call home. We can understand freedom as it pertains to the USA, but many military moms and spouses trudge through life spiritually and emotionally bound. Bound by excuses, self-imposed limitations, depression, oppression and the mundane things of life. Today, especially on July 4th, it is time to blow the lid off your life!
The United States reverences a constitution that guarantees equal rights and liberty as a citizen of this country. However it does not guarantee your success. You do! Long before the constitution and Bill of Rights were even thought of, The Way was prepared just for you to embrace true freedom. Jesus told us we are free in John 8:32 when He explains, “Then you will know the truth and the truth will make you free“. But the key is knowing the truth.
What is the truth? It is the real and actual state of a matter. It is seeing things how they really are, not as they appear to be. It is realizing, accepting, and becoming who you were created to be and allowing that realization to govern your actions and behavior. You can remember this by using this acronym:
F.R.E.E= Framing Reality Empowered (with truth) Everyday
So how do you live F.R.E.E? Try this:
1. Know who you are in Christ. (Ephesians 1-2 can help with this)
2. Accept it. Stop trying to convince God you’re not worthy, deserving or qualified. He is not surprised by you! And guess what…He loves you anyway.
3. Rehearse it everyday. No matter what thoughts try to come to your mind to tell you otherwise, Jesus has removed the lid from your life. Remind yourself of that truth daily by reading Ephesians chapters 1 and 2.
4. Live it. If you had a million dollars in your hand would you act like you were broke? When truth enters your heart, it is undeniable. God’s Word is truth and light and gives understanding to the simple (that would be us:O)) He has set us free!
How liberating to know freedom! And even better, to know this is your state of being every single day, even if you choose to exercise it or not. It works like gravity…it just is. When you accept Christ in your heart, you acknowledge his death and resurrection to give you true spiritual freedom.
Oprah once said “You are where you are in life because of what you believe you deserve for yourself.” If you do not believe you deserve what Christ has given you, it is time to practice living F.R.E.E until you do! Let July 4 be your turning point. Take the limits of your life, embrace your F.R.E.E.dom and watch something extraordinary happen!
