Christmas Jar Cookies

From my friend, Ruth

This is a very versatile recipe, one you can make your own.  I got this recipe at a Christmas get together with ladies from my church.  The recipe was a craft we put together, directed by my friend Ruth. To make as a craft project, you will need a quart size Mason jar.  Include only the dry ingredients in the jar, layering them one at a time. They will fit perfectly in the jar so make sure your measurements are accurate.  I recommend putting the m&m’s  in the middle so they won’t get too smashed when you close the lid.  Decorate the outside of the jar and/or the lid with materials of your choice.  It makes a nice homemade gift or a great homeschooling activity for you and your kids.  If you choose to make it a gift, make sure you include the recipe somewhere on the outside of the jar.  Well, let’s get started!

You need:

1 ½ cup all purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

¼ tsp salt

1 cup instant oatmeal

¾ cup green & red m&ms

¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

½ cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup white sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Stir dry ingredients in a large bowl and add:

½ cup butter almost melted

1 slightly beaten egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

Combine Thoroughly.  Roll into 1 ½ inch balls & bake for 12 minutes.  Yields about 21 cookies.

If you want to change it up a little, try m & m’s with peanuts, or dark chocolate m & m’s, depending upon your taste.  Merry Christmas!
