I’ll be honest. I have always been a little cynical when it comes to Christian movies. Mainly because of the quality. If we want to compete with mainstream messages, then we can’t settle for second rate and say, well, our message makes up for what’s lacking because I think God wants our best. We have to have movies that are incredible in terms of everything – acting, storyline, everything.
But I have to say, the work that’s being done by Sherwood Baptist Church, the creators of the movie Facing the Giants, is pretty incredible. Though the acting in that first movie wasn’t the greatest – it was definitely a great movie and pretty inspiring. When I heard that they were doing a second movie, this time with Kirk Cameron (one of my teenage hot throbs – boy, I feel old
), I still had to pause. Would it be good?
Ya’ll, I have seen the previews for this movie several times – once in a Sunday school class, and just recently in the movie theater, and I can’t WAIT to see this movie when it comes out September 26. My husband actually asked if we could go pick up the book that is a big part of the movie, called the Love Dare (which is in stores now). We did that last night and we’re looking forward to seeing it opening weekend.
Now, if you are reading this and your husband is deployed right now – I can totally understand that you might not want to go. I am personally, when I have a chance, going to contact someone and see when they’ll be putting it on DVD – wouldn’t it be cool if husbands overseas could watch it before they came home? (Anyone know if this is already happening, please let me know!)
We need to pray for our marriages. Military marriages especially are on high alert – too many are being destroyed by long separations, bad or miscommunication, and stresses that are attacking our relationships. I am praying that this movie will help thousands and thousands of couples refocus, reconnect and ask the question – is my marriage worth fighting for? – and come to the answer – Yes.

The movie looks GREAT! I can't wait to see it. My husband & I just came off a deployment. We also just came home from a marriage enrichment weekend. It was a great time to reconnect. The Iowa Guard sponsors these events every few months with the frequency of our soldiers deploying. The chaplains primarily lead the weekend along with volunteer coaches. The program used is called Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP). Don't you love all the acronyms? If anyone has an opportunity to participate in a similart event, it is well worth it.
