Give Up or Give All

“In due season, we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9, ESV.

Have you ever felt like giving up? Maybe you’re in the middle of a deployment right now and you’ve hit the wall. You’re tired, you’ve run out of answers, you just want things back to normal.

Maybe you’re done with a deployment but you’re still struggling in some way. Maybe in your marriage or your family or some work crisis.

I ran across the above verse today and it came at such a great time for me, I thought I’d share it with you as well. In fact, I got so excited when I came across it, that I looked it up in several other translations. Take a look at these.

So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. – The Message

And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a
harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up. – Living Bible

And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint. – Amplified

I have found myself up against a wall of discouragement lately, mostly self-induced. I find myself juggling a lot, pulled in different directions, trying to do my best in everything and not feeling like I’m doing very well in much. When I’m doing my “day job”, I’m thinking about family and Wives of Faith. When I’m with my family, I’m thinking about work and Wives of Faith. And when I’m working on Wives of Faith, I’m often thinking about work and family! Does this sound familiar to you? :)

But then I read this verse today, and it reminds me that I can’t give up. I have to keep going. Because it’s not about me. It’s about doing what God wants me to do. It’s not about my sufficiencies or lack thereof – it’s about what God can do through me. It’s about what God can do through you.

It is easy to want to roll up our welcome mats to others and focus on just our own needs at hand. But I believe without a doubt that God wants us to help each other as military wives and I believe He blesses those who give and help others. I have seen too many times now what happens when one wife reaches out to another. One wife says, “it’s gonna be ok.” One wife smiles and says “let me help you out.” One wife receives help and then in turn, gives another help along the way. That’s why I am so excited about the events we have coming up in the fall here in Nashville.

In September Tammy Trent will be coming to bless us in song and testimony. And in November, we will hold our very first military wives conference. Six different sessions, five different speakers, numerous opportunities to connect with others who share your faith and your experiences as a military wife. We’ll be posting more VERY SOON now that all of the main details have been confirmed!

But I’d like to ask you to consider some things. First, consider coming to the event in November (and in September if you live close enough). Second, please be praying for our event that God will use it to bless the hearts of military wives. And finally, please consider letting us know you’d like to help with a specific area. We need help with registration, help with publicity, our vendor area, our door prize donations and sponsors, as well as planning some fun late-night activities for after the sessions are over.

This week we will be talking about communication in marriage. How do you keep it up despite deployments, trainings and other things that pull us apart or keep us from focusing our attention on our spouses? I hope you’ll take a minute to share your own thoughts with the rest of us!
