God is our Refuge and Strength

Feeling overwhelmed, stress, fatigue, economy worries, government worries, and the list goes on….

Have you heard these lately? Truly we are at a crossroads in our country, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or discouraged when we look around at what’s going on. Let’s just add a deployed husband to the mix shall we?

  • How bout Sick kids?
  •  Or Too much month and not enough money?
  •  Maybe a rebellious teen?
  • Husband who’s got issues at work?
  •  Why not any or all of the above????  Just for kicks! ;)

Where can we run in times like these? Does God even see or care? The Word says the following:

GOD is our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains be shaken into the midst of the seas, Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling and tumult. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.  God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God will help her right early [at the dawn of the morning].  The nations raged, the kingdoms tottered and were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our Refuge (our Fortress and High Tower). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!   Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has wrought desolations and wonders in the earth.   He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow into pieces and snaps the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire.
Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!     The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our Refuge (our High Tower and Stronghold). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

                       Psalm 46 — Amplified Bible.

Be still and know that He IS God, now, here, with  you even in the midst of economic trials, deployed husbands and sick kids. Take comfort in knowing that even when it doesn’t seem like it God sees, hears and He knows. That He is not surprised at all with what’s going on and He WILL use it for good.

Take time to sit and be still, take deep breaths and unhunch  your shoulders! Watch the trees dance in the wind, listen for His voice in your children’s laughter and hugs, taste Him in the smoothness richness of that chocolate, feel Him wrap you in His arms as you snuggle in a quilt or stretch your legs in a walk, smell Him in the fresh cut crops, the perfume of dirt that lingers on your little boy.

Make the time to look for Him in your everyday world and know that He is still on the throne and even when things are hard He cares for you.  Let the Word of God speak.
