Hey, I received notice of a few good links so i thought I’d pass them along.
Get a free banner (3′ x 6′ ), just pay shipping. These are welcome home banners, shipping is about $11 and that is all you pay. The banners retail for about $70.00. The website states there is about a 3 week delivery and I think they are only doing a limited number, so hurry and get yours. http://www.buildasign.com/troops
Flat Daddies is a great idea. If you haven’t heard, it is a life size cut out of your soldier. You can sit it at the dinner table, it can ride in the care. Great for holiday family photos. Now the website I am posting has the cost as $49.50, but i know there used to be a company that did them for the cost of shipping only. If anyone knows who that is or if they still offer it, please post a comment with the wesite. http://flatdaddies.com/
Daddy Dolls site has some great stuff. Pillows, bears, dolls, voice recorders. These are great for helping kids through a deployment. No freebies on this site, but if anyone knows someone who can make these dolls for less, pass it on to everyone! http://www.hugahero.com/index.php

Hey Shauna! Great tips! As far as I know, Flat Daddies was the only company who did them for free, but they got to be in such demand, they've had to steadily raise their prices. That's too bad though that they're charging that much for them now! We actually got our Flat Daddy for free – got in right before they started charging the shipping costs. Despite the cost they are now, our Flat Daddy was a great thing to have. There are ladies who have made their own flat daddies…. I bet if someone googled, they could find out how to do it for a lot less…

We made our own "Flat Daddy" but on a much smaller scale. We took a picture of my hubby in uniform and then I printed it on 8×10 photo paper, cut it out and laminated it. It was much easier because we were able to carry "Daddy" in my purse and we took him out all the time at functions. I would take my camera and we would take pictures of him with the group and then my daughter would e-mail him the picture with a letter about what happened at the party/sporting event/school function, etc. It really served two purposes for us. First, when I took him out, it helped remind people that our daughter's "Daddy" was away and that made them all respond with more understanding to her situation. Also, everyone really got into the action with the photo ops. Second, it made it easy for my daughter to write things to her dad about what was happening in her life here and then he was able to keep up with things here as well. It really kept us all connected and I love the idea of "Flat Daddies" and even if you get a big one, maybe have a little one too so he can go to the events in the kids life a little easier. Just a thought.

I’d keep it polite as well as professional, even if you just aren’t interested in the job anymore. Thank you to your time, I look onward to hearing from you again, etc… As long as you just aren’t the one who was not professional, you have nothing to bother about, and should write your thank you letter the same; if you don’t know the interviewer’s name, call the company and ask- its appropriate.
