Survival Sisters Semester is a 6-week program that matches military wives for support, encouragement and prayer. A weekly email devotion is sent out with suggested discussion questions and Survival Sister pairs are encouraged to reach out in other ways of support for each other. An optional Bible reading plan will also be offered along with additional opportunities to connect with other Survival Sisters participating.
You do not have to be going through a deployment to participate though we do find many wives who are going through deployment benefit from this program the most. You may also be a wife who has just finished a deployment and would like to give back to someone else, knowing the blessing it is to have someone support and pray for you. Each pair of Survival Sisters are encouraged to connect at least once each week by phone or Skype if unable to meet in person to discuss the devotional and the questions which are included. *Please note that this program is for current wives only. Girlfriends and fiances are welcome to join us in our bi-annual blog carnivals.
PLEASE NOTE: Our Fall Survival Sisters Semester has now ended. The next semester will be held in early 2012.
Here’s what some of the wives who participated in our inaugural semester in the fall had to say about their experience:
“I really have enjoyed this semester. I found the lessons each week to be very relevant and easy to follow. I enjoyed getting to know my survival sister and really felt like we bonded. This has been such an encouragement to me and look forward to another semester.”
“I really enjoyed my Survival Sister. While I have not yet met her in person, I have stayed in contact with her on a regular basis through email and text messaging. Also, through our relationship, our husbands had the chance to meet. Being connected with a military wife in the same general living area has opened a door for a long lasting friendship. I would participate again.”
“I think a lot of wives could benefit from this program, if they know about it and are willing to participate. This program has greatly helped me grow spiritually and knowing that I am not alone. This has been my first deployment and it has really been tough on me. Thank you for all you do.”
So what’s a Survival Sister?
As military wives, we often we find ourselves wishing we had someone to lean on, who could encourage us and be a listening ear when we needed her.
Your Survival Sister knows what you’re going through. She can relate to what you deal with and she knows not just the importance of praying for you, but she has a good idea on how to pray for you as well.
Participation is limited
Please note that we do limit the number of women who participate in order to keep our numbers manageable and ensure that those who participate have a great experience. ONLY 50 wives (25 pairs) will be accepted into the semester and each wife will be asked to sign a commitment card before they can be approved as an official Survival Sister. This is to ensure that all wives who take part in this important relationship-building program have a wonderful experience with the Survival Sister they are matched with.
