Prayer and Remembrance

This weekend is being recognized by our country as the “National Days of Prayer and Remembrance” leading up to the anniversary of 9/11 this coming week. As we head toward both our conference and our country’s presidential election, I want to urge and encourage you to continue to pray – for our military, for our military families and for our country’s leaders, that God will help us as Americans make good and wise decisions, including who will be the next Commander in Chief.

We are a little over a third of the way through our 100-day prayer campaign leading up to our conference in November and it’s been amazing to hear some of the responses from people regarding the prayers. I’ve heard from many thanking us that we’re doing this and I’ve been really touched when we’ve heard how specific prayers have encouraged someone’s day. I’ve gotten emails on specific days, like the day we prayed about service members dealing with PTSD and for their spouses and families; the day we prayed for reservist spouses who are struggling to identify with their role as a military wife… the emails usually say “This is ME! Thank you for praying.”

I got a great email last night though that I had to share because it’s a wonderful example of why we’re doing this, and what God does when His people pray.

I just wanted to say thank you for the prayers. This is EXACTLY what I needed to
hear. There were several days like this, about 4 so far I believe. That I read it and it just uplifted my day. The day you prayed for struggling finances was the day my family was doing a garage sale to help ease some of our strain while my husband prepared to deploy. We needed $360. God provided everything to put in the sale, and we raised $364. And I got the email the mor’n of the garage sale. Thank you so much for all that you are doing. Our God is truly an Awesome God!

Yes, He is! I want to continue to encourage you to participate in our campaign if you’re already receiving the emails, and if you’re not, to sign up for them. If you’re not sure how to, just email me at sara@wivesoffaith.org and I can walk you through it or do it for you.

Here is the official proclamation from President Bush regarding the National Days of Prayer and Remembrance… may God answer some of your prayers this week!

National Days of Prayer and Remembrance, 2008
By The President Of The United States of America

A Proclamation

During National Days of Prayer and Remembrance, we pay special tribute to the thousands of innocent victims who died on September 11, 2001. Our Nation honors the brave citizens, service members, police officers, and firefighters who heroically responded in the face of terror. On these important days, we reflect on the terrible events of September 11, 2001, and lift the victims and their families in our prayers.

Our Nation will never forget the individuals who lost their lives in New York, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon. America saw that day – fearless rescuers who rushed toward danger, a beloved priest who died helping others, two office workers who carried a disabled person 68 floor to safety.

We also pray for the safety and success of the members of our Armed Forces now serving freedom’s cause. We seek God’s grace on their families, and commit to Heaven ’s care those brave men and women pray for His providence and continued blessings on our country. May He always guide the United States of America. As we defend our country against its enemies, we pray for help in protecting the gift of freedom from those who seek to destroy it, and we as the Almighty to strengthen all those who seek to destroy it, and we ask the Almighty to strengthen all those securing liberty on distant shores.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Friday September 5, through Sunday, September 7, 2008, as National Days of Prayer and Remembrance. I ask that the people of the United States and their places of worship mark these National Days of Prayer and Remembrance with memorial service, the ringing of bells, and evening candlelight remembrance vigils. I also invite all people across the world to share in these Days of Prayer and Remembrance.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty eighth day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight and of the Independence of the United States of America the hundred and thirty-third.

George W. Bush
