your husband has been deployed for just about two months and all of your rallying friends who promised they’d be there finally drift away, somehow no where to be found. They are all seemingly wrapped up in their families, and rightfully so, but you find yourself wondering about the rest of the deployment without them when you thought you were going to have them. Things aren’t as you had imagined they’d be. Even the family you thought would make the extra effort for a few months are even more distant than usual. What do you do?

Today in the car I was having a conversation with my daughter about how God had worked in our lives when my hubby was deployed. Obviously, it is always easier to recognize in hindsight. When my hubby was deployed, there were so many people at first that I felt overwhelmed with the attention and resisted many opportunities because I felt like I was imposing on the person/family. Like you, about two months into the deployment, people seemed to forget about my situation and drift back into their busy lives. But one very depressing night, a friend called and I broke down crying and felt bad for bothering her with my "weakness". She reminded me that God crossed our paths for a reason and never look at reaching out to others as anything but accepting God's gift of working in your life. Even though it wasn't easy for me, when I needed it, I "imposed" myself into the lives of friends and family around me. Never once did any of them make me feel like I was burdening them. In fact, after my hubby returned from deployment, one of my friends thanked me for sharing the experience with her and her family. She felt it really helped her and her family learn about sacrifice, leadership and caring during tough situations. So take advantage of those opportunities presented to you by friends and family. Invite yourself into the lives of others, knowing God put them there in your life for a reason. Allow the spirit to envelope all of you in great care during this tough time.My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
