Sunshine on my shoulder

Sunshine makes me happy!

It just does.

I live in a northern state, where we don’t get as much sunlight as the rest of the country; so when the sun is out, like today, I’m all giddy-happy with joy!

Usually about the middle of January is when everyone’s resolutions are either sticking like glue, or falling by the wayside.

Was one of your resolutions or goals to be healthier? Consider adding Vitamin D to your health plan.

No, I am not on the Vitamin D council or anything. My part-time job is as a women’s club fitness trainer, so oftentimes health topics come up in the circuit, among our discussions about food and losing weight.  Recent research about Vitamin D has us all interested and a little depressed, since we just don’t get enough of the “sunshine” part of the Sunshine Vitamin.

So, we recommend supplements.

Most multivitamins comply with the current recommendation of 400 IUs (international units). However, it does not hurt to take more. I am currently taking one 2000 IU capsule each day, and I have honestly felt an improvement in my mood.  Even when it’s cloudy, I’m not depressed.

Additional research is pointing toward Vitamin D as an aid in fighting cancer. I was part of a medical study in December that was studying Vitamin D and breast cancer. It’s of great interest in the medical community. (I don’t know if I was taking Vitamin D or a placebo, but I felt better even when the weather was crummy, so take that as you will.)
