How does your faith refresh at Christmastime?

For those among us who follow the liturgical church calendar, the season of Advent is the “Happy New Year” for the Church. It can remind us of the manifest presence of God on earth in the person of His Son, Jesus.

In light of this insight, what’s the “Happy New Year” for your faith at this time of year?

Christmas Jar Cookies

From my friend, Ruth

This is a very versatile recipe, one you can make your own.  I got this recipe at a Christmas get together with ladies from my church.  The recipe was a craft we put together, directed by my friend Ruth. To make as a craft project, you will need a quart size Mason jar.  Include only the dry ingredients in the jar, layering them one at a time. They will fit perfectly in the jar so make sure your measurements are accurate.  I recommend putting the m&m’s  in the middle so they won’t get too smashed when you close the lid.  Decorate the outside of the jar and/or the lid with materials of your choice.  It makes a nice homemade gift or a great homeschooling activity for you and your kids.  If you choose to make it a gift, make sure you include the recipe somewhere on the outside of the jar.  Well, let’s get started!

You need:

1 ½ cup all purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

¼ tsp salt

1 cup instant oatmeal

¾ cup green & red m&ms

¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

½ cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup white sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Stir dry ingredients in a large bowl and add:

½ cup butter almost melted

1 slightly beaten egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

Combine Thoroughly.  Roll into 1 ½ inch balls & bake for 12 minutes.  Yields about 21 cookies.

If you want to change it up a little, try m & m’s with peanuts, or dark chocolate m & m’s, depending upon your taste.  Merry Christmas!

We used this prompt last year, and it was such a good one, I couldn’t resist using it again! This is your chance to really dive into the uniquenesses we have as military wives at Christmastime.

(On a personal note, if you’re not with your military husband this year, my heart goes out to you and believe me when I say you have the support of each and every Wife of Faith here, along with our thoughts and prayers.)

What Christmas means to me.

I envisioned this prompt as different from all previous ones; it’s not focused on things, like ornaments or songs, but rather on the meaning of Christmas, for you. I think it will look similar to those of us who share a faith in Jesus Christ, and yet I think it will mean different things to others. This is your chance to wax as poetic as you wish! Feel free to explore what this season means to you, to your family, and to your life.

Gluten Free Pumpkin Scones

Each year I look forward to the pumpkin scones at Starbucks.  The cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg warming the pumpkin to form a triangle of perfection, then lightly coated with a sweet vanilla sugar glaze.  There’s just something so magnificent about them, lightly dunked in a steaming hot latte to give a little moisture to the mass-produced scone.
