I ran into one of our Wives of Faith ladies at the grocery store today. We were both rushing up and down the aisle, checking off our lists. It was nice to stop and chat a little bit and catch up. Her husband just got home from his deployment and she was telling me that after three weeks of being home, he had just left again to do his two week training for the year. Somehow, that led to talking about how busy all of us are.
I made the comment that I think time these days is actually even more valuable than money. When someone volunteers to help with something and give their time, to me they have given one of their most precious resources.
But time can be a hard resource to hold as well, can’t it? When you are in waiting mode, either for your husband to leave or your husband to return, it’s hard not to wish time away. It’s not unusual to wish you could go to sleep the day your husband heads overseas and not wake up until he comes back. Let the time pass by. But that’s not really living though.
Paul was very deliberate with his time. He stayed sensitive to the Holy Spirit and when it was time to move on to something else – another church, another town – he did so. When he sensed he needed to stay in one place a little longer, he did that too.
I’d like to challenge you with something this week. Think about all of the things you do with your time. Think about all of the things you don’t do with your time. How much of it is blessing someone else? How much of your time is helping build yourself up in healthy meaningful ways? How much of it isn’t?
Take some time to pray and ask God to help you with your time this week. Ask Him to help you put your time to good use – in a special way. And then look for His hand in your days this week.
I’d love to hear what happens with your time this week. Please share it with us!
