This is the Day to Pray
In 2003, I had the opportunity to go over to Iraq twice and write stories of our military, both on ship and in Baghdad. During our Baghdad trip, one of the chaplains said something I’ve never forgotten. He was a regimental chaplain with the 82nd Airborne, one of the first that had entered Baghdad and taken control of the city. His regiment had seen a lot but they were buoyed by the prayers of the people back home. Until the summer came and people back home got busy with vacations and taking the kids to the pool and forgot to pray. That is when Chaplain Murphy said his regiment had the most casualties.
“We could tell a difference when the people back home were praying for us and when they weren’t,” he told me. “It was night and day.”
I was reminded of this conversation when I heard about the group of soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan recently. And I wondered… how many of us are praying daily for our military? For our military families? For not just protection for our troops, but victory?
As military wives, we certainly pray for our deployed husbands and their safety and their quick return to us. But what about for other military wives? Other families? Our country’s leaders and our churches?
I have been praying for our Wives of Faith conference that is coming in November. I’ve been praying that God will just do an incredible work in the lives of the women who come. I have to say, that as we prepare and get details worked out, I often feel very inadequate for the job. But the thought of a military wife coming and being encouraged and realizing she is not alone is what keeps me going. And if we can see that happen, then we’ve done what we’re supposed to do.
So, forgive my absence from the blog the last couple of weeks – I’ve been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work preparing for the events we have coming up in the fall. And I’ve also been praying. And now I want to invite you to do the same.
Beginning August 1, we will launch a 100-day prayer campaign to challenge people to pray for our military, our country as well as our military wives conference. Each day you will receive a simple brief email with a specific prayer request to pray about, no longer than one or two sentences.
Can you take two minutes to pray each day for our military families? For victory for our military? For victory in our military marriages?
We need your prayers for the conference to be what it’s supposed to be. Our military also need our prayers. You may have friends and relatives and Sunday school classes and churches who would like to pray for our families and the troops but have no idea what to pray for. This email will give them specific ways they can pray.
I have seen in my own life the power of prayer. God wants to hear our prayers! God will answer our prayers as well.
Join the 100 Day Challenge-
If you are already subscribed to our newsletter, you will automatically receive the prayer challenge in your inbox when the first prayer request goes out August 1. If you do not wish to participate, you can go to the bottom of the email and click “Update Profile” and uncheck “This is the Day to Pray Challenge.”
If a friend or family member wants to participate, they simply need to type their email address in the subscription box on this blog or on our website and check only the “This is the Day to Pray Challenge” list option.
Please let as many people know about this campaign as possible. Feel free to copy this post and email to your friends and family and encourage them to also pray for our military, our military families and our country.
