As a wife of a reservist(retired) my husband was freq. deployed on just a few days notice. An elderly lady at Church leaned over to her neighbor and whispered (much too loud) "I guess her husband has quit coming to Church". It was quite a roller coaster the last year of service before he turned 60. "03 and he was deployed more than he was at home. I sometimes had to think where he was………

That is so true with me too. If I'm ever asked for mine, I look up like someone gave me a compliment. I realized it was a problem when I double checked the tax return that was prepared for us & didn't catch that the agency had not written my number correctly. It turned into a minor headache & delay, and when I went to fix it, I could barely quote it properly! I'm thankful for the benefits, but I do feel a little bit like my own identity is a bit irrelevant at times.

I was on active duty and now I'm a mil-wife and mil-mom. So, I need to take a little extra time with those wonderful SSAN's. But those SSAN's represent being part of a country that is one of the best in the world.

I always have a hard time remembering mine esp cuz our first 3 digits are similar. his always comes to mind first!
